SPECTRO-SCAN, INC . was founded in 1982, with one main objective. This objective was to establish a service-oriented company with our priority on saving our customers money through the use of oil analysis. We feel we have accomplished this objective over the last 20 years and have made it our philosophy.

Customer savings and satisfaction remain our top priority, as evidenced by free extras provided in our maintenance programs. Our turnaround time is 24 to 48 hours and any critical findings will be phoned in immediately with a faxed report to follow if requested. We have a web-based database for our customer's convenience. Our customers can now access their analysis data via the Internet by going to our web site. Our technicians have years of experience in the interpretation of oil analysis and continue to learn through hands on experience and continuing education.

A preventative maintenance program using lube oil analysis is beneficial in many ways. With scheduled oil analysis, wear products can be identified and corrective action taken before equipment failure can occur. Oil analysis can indicate when an oil change is required, point out shortcomings in maintenance and keep repair cost to a minimum. Using oil analysis can create a “window of opportunity”, allowing the user to schedule re-fittings or overhauls, maintenance or repairs at convenient times, thus saving money on equipment repairs and downtime.

Our customers can cover the cost of their lube oil analysis programs with the money saved on maintenance. The following is a classic example of how lube oil analysis can do all that is said about it and pay for itself at the same time. Company “A” has a small coolant leak in an engine. They do not use oil analysis therefore are not aware of the problem. The leak is small so the oil and coolant levels do not change enough to cause alarm. Over short periods of time the coolant causes sludge buildup and the engine fails. A major overhaul is required at a cost of $10,000. Company “B” has the same coolant leak but is using oil analysis. The coolant leak is detected early and repairs made at a cost of $2500.

In this case, a savings of $7500 was realized because of oil analysis. This savings could have paid for the oil analysis program for a very long time.

Some other benefits derived from lube oil analysis are:

  1. The correction and the extension of oil drain intervals.
  2. The prevention of unscheduled downtime.
  3. The increased life of the equipment.
  4. The identification of lubricants for correct use.
  5. The quality control of lubricants being used.
